- Project 2025’s section on the census bureau spells out a detailed plan to politicize the statistical agency. The Heritage Foundation’s plan for the next conservative administration proposes adding a citizenship question in the 2030 census, which Trump attempted (and failed) to implement during his presidency. The citizenship question, along with a series of other proposals will likely lead to significant undercounts of already vulnerable populations, leading to unequitable congressional representation and inequitable allocation of federal funds. What happens when communities are undercounted in the census? “That means food stamps, that means Medicaid dollars, that means mental health care dollars were less,” to states and cities that had census undercounts, said Maya Wiley, President & CEO, Leadership Conference on Civil & Human Rights.

There was so much animosity about that census that it became dangerous to work it. Did not help that they were also doing an address verification component where workers had to go up to addresses and physically verify it. I ended up bowing out it felt to dangerous.

Unfortunately the U. S. Census has never been an accurate count of people in this country. Trump called a halt to the 2020 census before it was completed.
In 1980 mayor Tom Bradley questioned whether Inglewood CA had been accurately counted in the census.
So what was the answer? A question is not an implication.
DT stopped the 2020 census because the results would cause re-proportioning unfavorable to his re-election.
The cutizenship question is unconstitutional
How is that when the constitution says you have to be a citizen to vote.

The entire project 2025 is unconstitutional that's why they want tRump to win because he said he would suspend our constitution.
@hollyheikkinen4698 Correct, but voting is affected because the representative numbers are skewed and give states with a higher illegal population, more representative seats, and nullifying states that don't have large illegal populations. So,no, it doesn't register them, but it doesn't account for illegals who should not have any bearing on our political process.

@@libbycollins9349the census data provides a lot of information for genealogy researching - names, family members, others living in your household, ages, race, nationality of the person & their parents, language spoken, occupation, etc. Citizenship can be proven on other documents - but the census data gives you a picture of their life.

It is alarming to see how America, once the beacon of democracy and freedom, seems to be slipping into a divided and polarized state. How can one person manage to drag such a large part of the population into misleading beliefs? (Look at European and Asian history.) This is not only dangerous for America, but for the world as well. Imagine if someone with such divisive ideas becomes president of the most powerful nation on Earth-a country that, during World War II, helped shape the future of Western democracy.
If that happens, the world as we know it will never be the same. Our great-grandchildren could grow up in a world that no longer recognizes our values of freedom and democracy. What does this say about the current state of our societies, where misinformation and distrust can thrive? We must remain vigilant and protect our democratic principles, because the consequences of this polarization will affect us all-now and in the future.
I'm sharing this message across multiple platforms, as I believe this is a conversation we urgently need to have.

The census bureau is not statistical, based on the numbers you get federal help and determine representation. California would lose multiple representatives if only citizens were counted.
They forgot to mention that businesses rely on accurate census data to plan where to build stores, and other business assets to serve specific populations. Bad census data can hurt businesses and their workers. Protect the DATA!
Ask abt how the Drumpf's Indian friend's failed to conduct a census that was due in 2021.

The last census I filled out felt very invasive! Too many too personal questions!
Oh like do you have a toilet? That was a standard at one time. How many rooms, running water, stuff like that? Census is more than just a headcount. It gives a snapshot into the socioeconomic conditions of people, and doesn't go public for 70 years.

The race & ethnicity questions in 2020 were very confusing - evem to the helpline operators.
I called to verify since the question didn't give "American" as a suggestion & later I saw that they weren't even tabulating American as a valid answer. I didn't come from somewhere else - I am an American! Today's census data is different than the censuses collected when a majority of immigrants came. I am a 3rd generation Finnish American on my paternal side as both sets of my great grandparents immigrated here in the early 1900s. I consider myself a Finlander, but I am only half Finnish descent. My mom's family has branches who were here 400 years ago from the Mayflower, the New Amsterdam colony, etc. I am 1/4 German as my maternal grandpa's parents & grandparents immigrated in the late 1800s. The other 1/4 is what my mom called "a Duke's Mixture" of English, Welsh, Irish, Scotch, Danish, etc. I cannot answer an ethnicity question with a single nationality other than American. I have some Finnish family customs, but my grandparents were Americans. I have some family customs on my mom's side, but I lived across the street from my dad's parents, so Finnish was more prominent since my mom's dad died when I was 7 & my grandma passed 6 years before I was born.
I called & asked the census worker how people were supposed to answer the ethnicity question if they had several generations born in the US - she said it wasn't clear what answers were "correct". I asked if "American with ancestors from ..." was what they wanted - she wasn't sure. After the fact, I found out American wasn't an acceptable answer to the question - weird that an American Census didn't accept American ethnicity as an answer! I am sure there are many Americans who don't even know where their original immigrant ancestors came from!
Clear instructions would've gone a long way! My answers are different than the answers my great grandparents would've given as immigrants who were born in Finland/Germany. Once you start researching your family tree, you realize that census data is important in your quest for answers. Sure, I know where my most recent ancestors immigrated from 100+ years ago - I also had an idea of where my ancestors came from when they immigrated 400 years ago, but DNA tests don't even tell you exactly where ALL of your ancestors started out at because everyone receives 50% of their DNA from each parent & the distribution of DNA is random, so every generation loses DNA from the line of ancestors. I started researching when I was 12 in 1984, so I am very interested in the various genealogy tv shows. There's a lot of famous people who don't know anything about their family tree once they go back a couple generations or more.
